This picture was taken 2 or 3 weeks before we moved into the house. it shows the east side deck and
covered porches with scaffolding in place. These days we spend a lot of time on the porches which now
overlook the fish pond we had excavated in the spring of 2008. (Click here for pictures of the pond)
View from the north of the first section of the house. The rest of the structure would be
attached on the left, (east) side of the picture. The row of posts will support the beams which
will support the floor joists for the rest of the structure.
The wall framing begins to rise
on the 3/4" painted plywood
sub floor deck that we
constructed on the tops of the
posts. We painted the deck
with a couple of coats of deck
paint to protect it from the
prolonged exposure to sun
and rain and weather that we
knew would occur before we
could roof it over.
The east wall of the first
section is on the left of the
picture.
The support
beams being
installed.
Looking east through the master bedroom to the red stained deck that runs the length of that
side of the house. The fish pond is now where the trees in the photo are located. The larger
trees are still there. This is the summer of 2004. It was hot on that deck because there was
no shade. The loss of fluids due to sweating often resulted in night time heat cramps which I
combated by drinking lots of orange juice to replace my electrolytes. Later I discovered that
V-8 juice works even better.
