Comments and Ruminations
6-28-09 What Is Art?  Now there is a question I haven't thought much about recently.  It
has become a joke in the form of a question because it is virtually unanswerable except
through the addition of the phrase, "to you" added to the end.

To me art is just about any form of self expression designed to be observed or
experienced by other people.  The common art forms of music, writing, painting,
sculpture, photography, acting, cinema, (movie making to those of us who are culturally
challenged) are well known and accepted.  I would also include body art, life style, and
the persona we choose to display to the world.

I've added a page called "Sources of Inspiration" where I am linking to the sites of some
interesting forms of self expression.  If you try the links feel free to express your opinion
through the "Contact Us" page and if we get enough comments I will post them on the
site.
9-24-09    So far the purpose and objectives for this website have not been achieved or have been achieved only
minimally.  I'm not sure if not enough artists have discovered the site, or if they have seen the site but are just not
interested in participating, or if those who would like to participate don't know enough about digital photography, don't
have the necessary equipment, or don't have enough computer savvy to attach a digital photo to an email and join the
archive.  Too many unknowns to draw a logical conclusion about how to proceed.  Perhaps with time and as more and
more folks stumble across it, the site will gain momentum.

I must also concede that it just may not be an idea whose time has come, or will ever come.  I will keep going for a
while and hope to get more participation with time.

One of the artists I am interested in displaying in the archive is a deceased painter named Mun Quan who lived in
Jacksonville, Florida.  He taught at Jacksonville University in the '60s and '70s.  I greatly admired his work when I was
in high school and as a young adult.  He painted misty, dreamy, and abstract landscapes with a strong Asian feel to
them.  I think he died before the rise of the Internet and I've been unable to find any visual record of his work.  That's a
shame because it was worth seeing.

If you happen to know anyone who owns a Mun Quan painting please direct them to this website's "Contact us" page.
His work should be preserved for the enjoyment of future viewers, and perhaps you can help to make that happen.
Meanwhile, since I have the domain, I'll do a few other webpages involving my other interests which have always been
too diverse for me to fully develop any of those interests singly.   My major short-coming has always been lack of the
kind of single-minded focus that leads to greatness and fame.  That's okay.  I think fame probably sucks.  And people
who are single-minded aren't much fun anyway.

I'll start with pages dedicated to small home-steading farm doofus experiments and their results with photos.
The continuing story of life at Boggybottom, how we started, and why.

1/21/2010 Those pages are now a reality and are a beginning of a new branching of the site.  More sections will be
added with time.  Some that are envisioned will be involved with my interest and experiences with unpowered water
craft, river camping trips, and salt water fishing.  I also take a lot of photos, many of which will appear on the
Boggybottom web site in the near future. Also, we are considering getting horses, which will be an entirely new
adventure that I will document on the site if it comes to pass.
